Teams from Br. Fernando Dela Fuente (BFD) and Br. Chris Mannion (BCM) respectively grabbed the championship title in Valorant and League of Legends at the esports tournament held last May 1, 2021 as part of the TLE week celebration.
Jose Cabalonga was named Most Valuable Player for League of Legends (LoL), while Dylan Martizano received the title for Valorant.
The winners for LoL consisted of team captain Jose ‘Dedicated’ Cabalonga, Mike ‘Kuya Rodel’ Albania, Jacob ‘Tetsugakumono’ Cotangco, Vince ‘KoG Aeterrno’ Barretto, and Kelvin ‘xMistake’ Medina.
Jose Cabalonga said that he was nervous at first, but he reminded himself that whatever happens, he would trust his teammates.
“Ang mentality na sinasabi ko sa teammates ko [na] inaapply ko sa sarili ko, laging best of three [ito]. [In every] game is do or die, so might as well give everything. I need to remind myself [that] whatever happens, may tiwala ako sa kakampi ko, at hindi ako papayag na matalo kami,” Cabalonga shared.
On the other hand, BFD, winners for Valorant were team captain Damien ‘pluma’ Santos, Ranz ‘Mochi’ Gaupo, Dylan ‘dustoo’ Martizano, Felizardo ‘Find1hundredways’ Bulaong III, Charles ‘panchodh’ Sindayen, and Keith ‘BB BIT’ Ponce.
Martizano was surprised to get a pistol round ace with the Classic, the standard weapon in the game.
“Hindi ko nga [rin] alam kung ano nangyari doon. Tumatalon-talon lang ako, tapos nag-ri-rightclick lang ako, [tapos] ewan ko, siguro naka-ace ako bigla,” the tournament MVP said.
According to the BFD’s team captain Damien Santos, the team’s strategy was coordination and chemistry during the tournament.
“Ito, guys, rush natin B, or rush natin A. [Tapos] ayun na, papasok na kami, kasi parang may spark na kami—may coordination and chemistry,” Santos shared.
BFD and BCM, both homerooms from Grade 11, defeated 12-Fourviere and 11-Br. Etienne Rwesa during the finals.
Before the championship tournament, BCM won against 12-Hermitage and 10-Saint Lorenzo Ruiz, while BFD prevailed against the teams of 10-Saint Marcellin Champagnat and 9-St. Luke. Jose Rafael Palomares
